One of the factors contributing to the high prevalence of stunting is the lack of knowledge of parents, especially mothers, about balanced nutritional intake and proper practices of feeding Complementary Breast Milk (MP-ASI). This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers under five related to the importance of nutritious food and the practice of giving MP-ASI in accordance with the guidelines of WHO and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The methods used are education through interactive counseling, demonstrations of making local food-based MP-ASI, and question and answer sessions. The target of the activity was 40 mothers with children aged 6-24 months in the Posyandu in the assisted area. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge by 65% after participating in educational activities. In addition, 80% of participants stated that they were motivated to implement MP-ASI feeding practices that are in accordance with the principles of balanced nutrition. This activity also encourages the use of affordable and nutritious local food resources. With the increase in mothers' knowledge and skills in compiling and delivering MP-ASI, it is hoped that the risk of stunting in early childhood can be minimized. This service activity proves that education-based interventions and direct practices can effectively support programs to accelerate stunting reduction at the community level. The recommendation for the future is to expand the scope of similar activities with cross-sectoral collaboration, especially among health workers and posyandu cadres.
2025-08-12T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Risna Ayu Rahmadani, Prasetyowati Prasetyowati, Indrawati Aris Tyarini, Rasi Rahagia, Matilda Martha Paseno https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/95 Hypertension gymnastics as a non-pharmacological intervention in lowering blood pressure 2025-08-12T15:27:20+08:00 Hairul Ahmad norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id Nor Isna Tauhidah norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id Dewi Kartika Wulandari norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id Pauria Pauria norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id Rusadi Rusadi norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id Hafizatul Auliya Az Zahrah norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id Mahdiyina Sesariani norisnatauhidah112@umbjm.ac.id
Hypertension is a global health issue with a high prevalence, including in Indonesia. However, many families have yet to fully implement CHLB practices in their daily lives, particularly in areas with limited education and access to health information. This community service program aimed to enhance family-level CHLB through a home visit approach conducted by community nurses. The method employed was an educational and participatory approach, where community nurses conducted regular home visits over three months. Each visit included direct health education, environmental observation, discussions with family members, and distribution of educational materials on CHLB. Topics included handwashing with soap, clean drinking water management, environmental sanitation, and prevention of infectious diseases. Based on local health data, the program targeted 30 households in a designated community. The results showed a significant improvement in both knowledge and practice of CHLB among the targeted families. Approximately 85% of the families demonstrated increased scores in the CHLB evaluation post-intervention. Positive behavioural changes were also observed, such as consistent handwashing before meals and after using the toilet, as well as better household waste management practices. These outcomes indicate that the home visit strategy by community nurses is an effective method for promoting health behavior change at the family level. This initiative is expected to serve as a replicable model for other communities, with the support of cross-sector collaboration. It emphasises the importance of family-based empowerment in health promotion and disease prevention efforts.
2025-08-12T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Syahrir Syahrir, Lumastari Ajeng Wijayanti, Nofita Tudang Rombeallo, Natalia Datu https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/98 Rational education on the use of drugs and self-examination of cholesterol levels for the people of Makassar City 2025-08-12T15:26:53+08:00 Yuniharce Kadang yuniharce@gmail.com Zulfiah Zulfiah piamuchtar@gmail.com
Health problems due to high cholesterol levels in the blood are a big challenge for the people of Indonesia, especially in urban areas such as Makassar. High cholesterol is closely related to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and other metabolic complications. On the other hand, the public's understanding of the rational use of drugs is still limited, so it has the potential to cause side effects, drug resistance, and decreased therapy effectiveness. The method of implementing the activity consisted of educational counselling related to the classification of drugs, how to use, store, and dispose of drugs correctly, as well as demonstrations of the use of cholesterol checkers (Easy Touch) using the Point of Care Testing (POCT) method. In addition, participants were given insight into the risk factors for high cholesterol and their control strategies, such as a healthy diet, exercise, and regular check-ups. The results of the activity showed high enthusiasm and participation of participants in the discussion and practice sessions. Brief evaluations through question-and-answer methods indicated an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of rational use of medication and initial skills in independent cholesterol examination. This activity not only fosters health awareness but also strengthens the function of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in community service. Thus, this activity contributes to increasing public health literacy and encouraging the implementation of a healthy lifestyle to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in urban areas.
2025-08-12T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Yuniharce Kadang, Zulfiah Zulfiah https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/99 Rehat Dulu: Healthy youth mentoring for boarding school girls group at Muhammadiyah 2 senior high school 2025-08-12T15:26:39+08:00 Ardiana Priharwanti diana.arif25@gmail.com Isrofah Isrofah diana.arif25@gmail.com Yulis Indriyani diana.arif25@gmail.com Eko Budi Prasetyo diana.arif25@gmail.com
Adolescence is a colorful and dynamic period, accompanied by a series of emotional upheavals that adorn the journey of a human being about to grow up. Adolescents, the largest age group in the Indonesian population structure, are the focus of attention and a strategic intervention point for human resource development. The most important step that must be taken is to increase attention to adolescent girls, because they face greater risks and are more vulnerable to the social environment. In addition to being the largest group (23% of the total population), adolescents have never received comprehensive and consistent attention. The group of adolescents who are in Islamic boarding schools or pondok environments, also known as boarding schools, are groups that often receive less attention, especially in terms of health. Reproductive health and mental health in adolescent girls are issues in Islamic boarding schools or pondok environments. Reproductive health is a state of perfect physical, cognitive, and social health, not only in the absence of disease or disorders, but also in terms of sexual and reproductive well-being. This includes the right of every individual to have a safe, satisfying, and fulfilling sexual life, as well as the right to have the ability to reproduce and the freedom to decide their own will in terms of reproduction without discrimination, pressure, or coercion. Adolescent reproductive rights are increasingly becoming an important topic to study in the modern era. This community service program aims to provide health education on reproductive health, mental health, and PHBS through "take a break" assistance. The purpose of implementing this program is for groups of students to be independent and effective in improving their health status through increased knowledge and changes in good practices, as a result of the program in the form of improving the quality of services to the community (groups of students) and scientific publications.
2025-08-12T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ardiana Priharwanti, Isrofah Isrofah, Yulis Indriyani, Eko Budi Prasetyo https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/100 Assistance for pregnant women at risk in efforts to prevent pregnancy complications 2025-08-12T15:26:25+08:00 Yoga Tri Wijayanti yogatriwijayanti@poltekkes-tjk.ac.id Warlinda Warlinda warlindamegarezky@gmail.com Hartaty Hartaty hartatymkes@gmail.com Ririn Indriani ririnindrianimiori79@gmail.com Fatimah Fatimah imhajepit14@gmail.com
High-risk pregnancy is a condition that can increase maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, so it requires special attention and treatment. In Bone Regency, adolescent anemia rates remain high despite the government’s iron supplementation program. This community service program aimed to implement research findings on using dates (Phoenix dactylifera) to increase hemoglobin levels and address anemia among adolescent girls. The activity involved health education on anemia prevention and the daily provision of 100 grams of dates (7–8 pieces) for seven consecutive days during menstruation. The program was conducted through observation, counseling sessions, and hemoglobin monitoring before and after the intervention. The rationale for using dates is based on their high iron and nutrient content, which supports hemoglobin synthesis naturally. The targeted participants were adolescent girls from the community surrounding Lapatau Stadium, Bone Regency. Expected outcomes included increased knowledge regarding anemia prevention, improvement in hemoglobin levels, and the promotion of alternative nutritional interventions for anemia management. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted by measuring hemoglobin levels post-intervention to assess effectiveness. The intervention reached 25 participants across five villages, with activities delivered interactively through presentations, discussions, and Q&A sessions addressing scientific facts and common myths about nutrition. Pre- and post-tests were used to evaluate changes in knowledge, showing significant improvements: average pre-test scores increased from 89/100 to 95/100, with 92% of participants demonstrating improved knowledge and 76% achieving perfect post-test scores. These findings highlight that nutrition education, supported by user-friendly media, effectively enhances knowledge and awareness regarding balanced nutrition among prospective brides and grooms. The program demonstrates that empowering couples before marriage contributes to healthier pregnancy preparation, reduces risks of CED and anemia, and ultimately supports the national goal of lowering stunting prevalence.
2025-08-19T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Mardiana Mardiana, Tesa Rafhani, Farida Dwi Rokhmah, Maria Ulfa, Aryanti Setyaningsih, Palgunadi Palgunadi, Alfi Nurul Khidmah, Jovita Salsabila, Raditya Ardiyansyah https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/111 Personal protective equipment as a measure to limit disability among ironworkers in maros regency 2025-08-31T08:52:40+08:00 Suharni A.Fachrin suharni/fachrin@umi.ac.id Alfina Baharuddin alfina.baharuddin@umi.ac.id Fatma Jama fatma.jama@umi.ac.id Hukma Ratu Purnama hukma.ratupurnama@umi.ac.id Yuliati Yuliati yuliati.yuliati@umi.ac.id Ella Andayanie ella.andayanie@umi.ac.id
Amidst the onslaught of modernization, traditional handicrafts still hold a unique appeal. One such craft is blacksmithing. Blacksmiths, despite their high level of skill in producing handicrafts, often face serious health and safety risks due to exposure to burning, heavy equipment use, and direct contact with hazardous materials. Observations at the partner site revealed workplace accidents such as burns (35.8%), contact with hot iron (58.7%), and being struck by iron materials (35%) due to the nature of their work. Based on these issues, community service activities were conducted in the form of education on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as an effort to limit disabilities among iron craftsmen. The results of the education on the benefits of PPE showed an increase in knowledge, attitude, and behavior, with pre-test results of 65%, 77%, and 85%, respectively, and post-test results of 83%, 89%, and 91%, respectively. Water is believed to be a natural resource that will never run out and will always be available at all times. Nonetheless, the availability of water as a natural resource is restrained due to its relatively constant hydrological cycle; thus making it limited in supply. The methods used during the activity were lectures and discussions. At the beginning of the activity, the team conducted counseling related to well water sanitation and its impact and how to overcome it. The method of this counseling stage is carried out through 5 stages, namely: socialization stage, implementation stage. This activity includes 3 sessions, among others: First stage: Pre test, which is given through a questionnaire, through lecture, question and answer, and discussion methods Post test and assessing the results of the post test, technology application stage, monitoring and evaluation stage, program sustainability stage. The results of the service activities showed that the educational program on access to clean water sanitation and the effects of borehole water for health succeeded in significantly increasing the knowledge of the participants. The event was opened by the Head of Village together with the managing midwife, village midwife, Family Empowerment and Welfare Organization, and cadres from the Integrated Service Post. The cadre training was conducted with pre-tests and post-tests to assess knowledge about adolescent girls' health, particularly the prevention of anemia, stunting, balanced nutrition, and healthy eating patterns. The results showed an increase in the cadres' knowledge about the risk factors for stunting, anemia, consumption of iron tablets, and nutritious foods. Knowledge plays a vital role in shaping health behavior (Lawrence Green's concept), and education is an effective strategy for changing the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of adolescents. After the education, all cadres had good knowledge. The cadres are expected to be able to become health promotion agents and sources of information for their peers. The results of the adolescent girls' examination showed that there were still 12% with anemia, 47% underweight, 18% with chronic energy deficiency, and 35% short. Adolescence is a second window of opportunity to improve nutrition, as growth occurs rapidly. Anemia is a risk factor for stunting in early adolescent girls, so preventing anemia plays an important role in reducing stunting. Thus, empowering youth integrated service post cadres is a strategic alternative solution in improving adolescent health, especially in preventing stunting, as well as optimizing adolescent reproductive health.
2025-09-10T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Yuniarti Yuniarti, Zakiah Zakiah, Niken Pratiwi https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/117 Empowerment of youth posyandu cadres as an effort to delay the age of marriage and prevent teenage pregnancy 2025-09-17T20:28:22+08:00 Hapisah Hapisah hapisah476@gmail.com Rusmilawaty Rusmilawaty rusmilawaty71@gmail.com Rafidah Rafidah rafidahendro@gmail.com
Early marriage and teenage pregnancy remain serious public health issues, as they impact the health of mothers and babies, as well as the social and economic well-being of families. In this regard, integrated health service post (Posyandu) cadres play a crucial role as the spearhead of health education, particularly in providing accurate information to adolescents. This community service program aimed to increase the understanding of adolescent Posyandu cadres, toddler Posyandu cadres, and young women regarding the importance of maturing marriageable age and efforts to prevent teenage pregnancy. The program involved 25 adolescent Posyandu cadres, toddler Posyandu cadres, and young women from Simpang Warga Village, Aluh-Aluh District, Banjar Regency. The implementation phase included a pretest, interactive lecture presentation, a question-and-answer discussion, and a case study related to the phenomenon of teenage pregnancy. A posttest and field evaluation were then conducted to assess the extent of the material's implementation. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The results showed an increase in average knowledge scores after the intervention. The integrated health post (Posyandu) cadres also demonstrated their readiness to apply the material in youth Posyandu activities, particularly in providing education on the health risks of early marriage. Overall, this community service program has proven effective in strengthening the capacity of Posyandu cadres to support the movement to increase the age of marriage and prevent teenage pregnancy. For the program's sustainability, cross-sector collaboration, including with village governments and community health centers, is needed to strengthen promotive and preventive efforts at the community level.
2025-09-10T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Hapisah Hapisah, Rusmilawaty Rusmilawaty, Rafidah Rafidah https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/118 Balanced nutrition education for adolescents: Pre-post test approach to increase awareness of healthy diets in disaster-prone areas 2025-09-21T10:46:49+08:00 Febiani Riskika Febianiriskika@gmail.com Ummu Aiman ummuaimans.ua@gmail.com Aldiza Intan Randani Randanidiza49@gmail.com Nurulfuadi fuadinurul22@gmail.com Try Nur Ekawati Lukman try.achmadi@gmail.com Linda Ayu Rizka Putri
Adolescents are vulnerable to nutritional problems, especially in disaster-prone areas where access to nutritious food is limited. Sigi District, Central Sulawesi, was severely affected by the 2018 earthquake and liquefaction, which disrupted food security and increased instant food consumption. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of balanced nutrition education using a pre-test and post-test approach in improving students’ knowledge of healthy eating at SMK 1 Sigi. The intervention involved 30 students who received lectures and leaflets on the Balanced Nutrition Guidelines. Knowledge was assessed through pre- and post-tests, and differences were analyzed statistically. Results indicated a significant increase in mean knowledge scores from 37.31 ± 15.89 to 65.77 ± 21.20 (p < 0.05). The proportion of students in the poor category decreased from 93.33% to 30%, while those in the fair and reasonable categories increased substantially. These findings highlight that simple educational interventions can enhance adolescents’ nutritional awareness in disaster-affected areas. Therefore, balanced nutrition education should be integrated into school health programs as a sustainable preventive strategy
2025-09-21T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Febiani Riskika, Ummu Aiman, Aldiza Intan Randani, Nurulfuadi, Try Nur Ekawati Lukman, Linda Ayu Rizka Putri https://abdimas.polsaka.ac.id/index.php/abdimaspolsaka/article/view/119 Role-play as a community service strategy to improve english communication for nursing students 2025-09-28T09:16:00+08:00 Yuriatson Yuriatson jubhariyuriatson@gmail.com Rosmiaty Rosmiaty jubhariyuriatson@gmail.com Anwar Taufiq jubhariyuriatson@gmail.com Luana Sasabone jubhariyuriatson@gmail.com Nurliah Nurliah jubhariyuriatson@gmail.com Kaharto Kaharto jubhariyuriatson@gmail.com
Communication skills in English are an essential competency for nursing students to face the challenges of globalization and international healthcare services. However, many students still struggle to express themselves confidently in real clinical contexts. This community service program aimed to enhance the communication ability of nursing students through English training using the role-play method. The training was conducted with final-year nursing students at Politeknik Sandi Karsa and applied a participatory approach consisting of lectures, demonstrations, role play simulations, group discussions, and reflective evaluations. Various clinical scenarios were designed, such as explaining medication usage, calming anxious patients, and describing vital sign procedures. The program was implemented over two days, with the first day focusing on interactive material delivery and facilitator demonstrations, while the second day emphasized practical role-play performance with direct feedback. A total of 23 students participated actively in this activity. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ confidence and ability to use English in professional healthcare communication. Participants expressed positive responses toward the method, highlighting that role play reduced speaking anxiety, increased motivation, and fostered readiness for real clinical interactions. The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) confirmed that this method not only improved English proficiency but also enhanced soft skills such as empathy, teamwork, and therapeutic communication. The outcomes suggest that role–play–based English training is an effective strategy to support nursing education and should be integrated regularly into the curriculum to prepare graduates for global healthcare demands
2025-09-10T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Yuriatson Yuriatson, Rosmiaty Rosmiaty, Anwar Taufiq, Luana Sasabone, Nurliah Nurliah, Kaharto Kaharto
